Truth be told, I was raising kids and needed a flexible job. Baking at home and selling baked goods at the farmers market seemed like a feasible option. And so I launched BIG Bundts & More in 2009. It was hard work with lots of sacrifices and little pay. But it was exciting and it was mine to build or lose.
I started to build! The biz outgrew the home kitchen. In 2012, I outfitted a small 500 square foot space primarily as a wholesale location at Straw Valley in Durham. After years of wholesale and a brief time running a coffee shop next door to the bakery, I realized the importance of having the bakery and coffee shop combined under one roof in an accessible location.
In April 2016, the bakery moved into the former Hummingbird Bakery location at 721 Broad St, Durham. This is where the bakery resides today. It’s where every cake is handcrafted with attention to detail.
The business name BIG Bundts & More was originally created when the focus was bundt cakes, brownies, cookies, scones and pies. Over time, the buttercream cake business grew and I launched a new cake ball collection. The bakery naturally morphed into a cake and cake ball business and embraced a name addition... Cake Lounge!
My bakery story continues as my obsession for cake flourishes and my passion in elevating the Southern cake matures. I believe for a cake to be elevated it must poses superior flavor, texture and design. I never compromise. Period. You will find this in all of my cakes.
